Frequently Asked Questions

How do I connect an external drive?

Connect your USB drive, SSD, or flash drive to your iPhone or iPad using a compatible adapter (Lightning to USB or USB-C). Open Photo Backup and the app will detect your drive. Select it to begin backing up.

What types of drives are supported?

Photo Backup works with any external storage that iOS recognizes, including USB flash drives, external SSDs, and hard drives. The drive must be formatted as exFAT or FAT32 for best compatibility.

Are my photos uploaded to the cloud?

No. Photo Backup copies your photos and videos directly from your device to your external drive. Nothing is uploaded to any cloud service or server. Your data stays entirely on your own storage.

Can I back up Live Photos and videos?

Yes. Photo Backup preserves your full library including Live Photos, videos, and metadata. Files are copied in their original quality.

What happens if I enable “Delete after backup”?

When enabled, photos and videos are removed from your device's library after they are successfully copied to the external drive. This helps free up space. Deleted content may not be recoverable, so ensure your backup is complete before using this option.

The app doesn't see my drive. What should I do?

Try unplugging and reconnecting the drive. Ensure it's formatted as exFAT or FAT32. If using an adapter, try a different one. Restart the app or your device if the issue persists.
